Olufemi Oyewole, was born on March 23, 1986 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Oyewole graduated in 2006 with distinction from the Federal College of Education, Technical, Akoka, Lagos, with a National Certificate in Education (NCE) in Painting. He later studied Fine and Applied Arts at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts.
Oyewole’s fascination with drawing began as a child. It is a skill he has practiced constantly and consistently, even to this day. During the impressionable creative years following graduation, Oyewole discovered the works of Abiodun Olaku, a master artist who had a positive influence on Oyewole and his style.
Oyewole believes his ideas for paintings come from everywhere: landscapes with soft moods, the solitude of an aquatic environment at sunset, or even the story behind a scene. What keeps him excited about painting is his endless quest to simplify and unveil the essence of whatever he paints.
Oyewole is an active member of the Society of Nigerian Artist (SNA), International Watercolor Society of Nigeria (IWS NIGERIA), Plein Air Society of Nigeria (outdoor landscape painters).
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I see painting as a way of exploring the world and then as a vehicle of sharing those discoveries with others. As a creative and unique language, painting allows me to express ideas I cannot convey with words.
